Indian CDS Bipin Rawat onboard IAF Helicopter Mi-17V5 crashes

Tamil Nadu, India:- Indian CDS Bipin Rawat on Wednesday, was on board an Indian Airforce Helicopter Mi-17V5, which crashed on its way to Coonoor from Sulur, CDS Bipin Rawat, along with his wife and 11 others died.

According to sources, three casualties have been taken to the Army Hospital in Wellington, Tamil Nadu, and among the three rescued, the sources say that one was CDS of India, Gen. Bipin Rawat.

CDS Gen, Bipin Rawat was accompanied by his wife Madhulika Rawat on the crashed IAF chopper.

Among others on board with the CDS were, Brig LS Lidder, Lt Col Harjinder Singh, NK Gursewak Singh, NK Jitendra Kr, L/Naik Vivek Kumar, L/Naik B Sai Teja, and Hav Satpal.
Reports suggest that a total of 14 passengers were on board when the chopper crossed over the mountains of Nilgiri, forces along with the local police are in coordination for the rescue operation.

Initial reports suggest that 8 passengers were found dead on-site, 3 rescued to hospitals but in DI condition, and others are still to be found.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has taken a brief from the defence officials and has also briefed the Prime Minister.
He will be making a statement in the Parliament later today, as it is an ongoing session duration.

Defence Minister met the family of Indian CDS Bipin Rawat, to inform the family about the ongoing conditions.

Army Chief MN Naravane, IAF Chief VR Chaudhari and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister have already left for the crash site.
