What was the formula adopted to award marks to the exams that students didn’t appear for?

CBSE chose a formula where “Best of Three” papers were chosen, for the students who gave four or more exams, and an average of these best of three papers was awarded to the remaining papers.

Another formula where students appear for three or fewer exams was that the average of “Best of Two” papers was taken to award the marks for the remaining unwritten exams.

All these calculations had a big role of the internal assessment, practical and oral examinations, that were conducted before written exams and the pandemic lockdown.

The overall passing result of CBSE 12th board stood at 88.78% with an increase in the percentage of students scoring higher than 90%. In 2019 about 7.82 students scored more than 90%, whereas in 2020 the number went up to 13.24%.
This year total of 11,92,961 students appeared for board examination and 10,59,080 students successfully cleared the exams to register for higher degree level examination, of whose registration will start soon depending on the date of the exam of JEE and other competitive entrance examination.

Regular batches of UGC are expected to start from the first week of September. These students who cleared the secondary examinations are expected to join the UGC colleges later this year.
