Amphan hits parts of Odisha and West Bengal.


May 20, 2020, The Liberacy:- Amphan the fiercest cyclone of this year, and tagged as Super cyclone hits the India shore of West Bengal. Amphan will cross West Bengal between Digha and Hatiya close to Sundarbans. The arm of the cyclone has hit the shores earlier and the eye of this cyclone is expected to hit Kolkata by late evening on 20th of May 2020.

The tidal waves are expected to be as high as 6 meters, tallying the New Moon Night (Amavasya)
Eastern Naval Command is put on standby with its ships at Visakhapatnam, for rescuing and aid to humanitarian works.

The width of the wall clouds of the Amphan Cyclone is 120 km with an eye diameter of around 40 km.
Wind speeds were recorded to be around 270 km/hr and hence it was put under the category of SuperCyclone. But, from Tuesday, the speed has lowered and it is expected to hit the shores with an approximate speed of 155 km/hr.

Amphan has commenced it landfall from 2:30 pm on 20th May and has been extending north-northeastwards and will cross West Bengal-Bangladesh coast between Digha and Hatiya Islands close to Sundarbans around Sagar Island. During landfall, the intensity of the cyclone is likely to be 155 to 165 kmph gusting to 185 kmph.

As said by the Director of Indian Meteorological Department, H R Biswas, the movement of the cyclone will continue for the next 4 hours form the time of its commencement.

A total of 4.5 Lakh people were displaced and evacuated, with 1.5 lakh people from Odisha and 3 lakh from West Bengal.
NDRF has been called on with its 41 teams positioned in Odisha and West Bengal.

South Paragana and North Paragana will experience a smoothness in the areas, with a little cold environment as the eye of Amphan Cyclone will pass through these two places. But, will experience heavy rain as the cyclone moves northwestwards.

Deaths and Births amid Amphan Cyclone.

Two deaths were reported since the arm of the cyclone hit the Indian shore. One woman died in Howrah District and another Woman in the North 24 Paragana District of West Bengal. Both death were caused by the uprooting of trees.

A piece of news came from the Kendrapara District of Odisha where a woman gave birth to a baby girl while being evacuated in the Fire Service vehicle. They are shifted to Mahakalpada for further care and essentials.
