June 05, 2020, The Liberacy:- Shadow-effect energy generator can produce Electricity using shadows can give a boost to the energy sector and can give hold to the ever-struggling demand and supply difference of Energy sector.
Swee Ching Tan‘s new experiment generates electricity by the contrast of the difference between bight spots and shady areas.
This complete experiment was published as a report in Energy and Environmental Science.

Tan and his team made an apparatus/device to produce electricity that exploits the contrast between bright spots and shady areas to generate current. This small current can be used to power small devices, or by a combination can be used to power bigger devices.
Tan and his team call the device “shadow-effect energy generator”.
In the shadow-effect energy generator, there is a super-thin coating of Gold placed over silicon. The light bombarding over Silicon excites its electrons. This highly energized electron of Silicon jumps over to Gold. A part of the device is in the shaded area. Hence, the voltage level of the illuminated area increases as compared to the part in the shaded region.
But, the flow of electron is always from high voltage to low voltage, hence the electron flows through the shaded region and completing the circuit with the flow of current.
“We can harvest energy anywhere on Earth, not just open spaces,” says Swee Ching Tan.

Tan and his team also conducted an experiment, where they used eight shadow-effect energy generators to run an electronic watch in low light.
The generators can also be used as sensors, as in an experiment when a car passed through a shaded region, the sensor sensed the contrast and the LED bulb connected to it started to glow.
Tan, making a remark said that people think that shadows are useless, but according to him, anything can be useful if they know how to make it work.
As Tan highlighted the usefulness of a shadow using his shadow-effect energy generator, many more options might be available under our eye.
Hence, It can be concluded that it’s just a matter of time when our eyes will surely uncover the usefulness of wastes and solve the energy crisis we are facing now and the crisis that will be inevitable for future generations.
