Nuku’alofa, Tonga:- Tsunami Warning for Tonga was issued after an undersea volcano erupted near the island shoreline. The “Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha’apai” Volcano erupted, with ash flying as high as 25 kilometers into the sky according to New Zealand media.
Nuku’alofa, the capital of Tonga, experienced the shockwaves waves from the eruption, with massive ash clouds over the region. The shock waves were generated under the sea bed and the magnitude was strong enough to send warnings through the seismic table and warn about the triggered Tsunami.
The location of the volcano is about 28 kilometers south of Tong’s Fonuafo’ou island, and thus this region remains under great threat of any triggering Tsunami.
With Tsunami warnings, the weather reports from the region have also issued warnings for heavy rain, flooding, and storm.
Many nearby islands have started taking their precautionary measures, like Fiji and American Samoa have issued a public advisory to stay away from the beaches and shoreline till the time Tsunami Warnings are in place.
Tsunami Warning for Tonga was issued in the public interest and to tackle any potential loss of life.
