Train travel in India is a necessity more than a luxury for billions of Indians traveling for work, events, or tourism, but very less know how to book train ticket on IRCTC and they end up paying extra to travel agents.
In this article, we will be talking about how to book train ticket on IRCTC website and partnered as well as supporting platforms like MakeMy Trip, EaseMy Trip, Goibibo, and Paytm.

First, you need to log in to your IRCTC Account or if you are new to IRCTC Website, you need to register for a new account.

The window you see while you open the IRCTC website, or on login, will be of Booking Window, as shown in the image “Book Ticket”.
You need to enter the location from where you want to book the ticket and till the location, you want to book the tickets.
Remember this is the booking location, passenger can alter the boarding location according to their need.
Enter the date and class in which you need to travel, and below will be the quota in which the passenger wants to book the ticket, viz. General, Tatkal, Ladies, Divyaang, Premium Tatkal, etc. Each quota and class may have different prices.

The next window will show the booking details and train details and options, out of which you can select which train and time are suitable for you to travel and most importantly see the seat availability in trains and proceed further with booking. (See the Example Image of LTT GKP SF EXP)
On the selected train and time from Step 2, you need to crosscheck the train details and now fill in the details of the passenger.
First, select the Boarding Station (Leave this option if Booking Station and Boarding Station are the same), then fill in the passenger details like name, age, gender, nationality, and seat preference. You can add more passengers by clicking the tab below names.
Next, you need to add contact details like email id and phone number, most often it comes pre-filled with the details you give during registration on IRCTC.

The next step would be to select coach and reservation preference, this can be avoided as selecting it would book a ticket only if 1 lower berth is allotted, otherwise, the ticket won’t be booked at all.
You can opt-in for travel insurance, in case of any mishappenings during the travel, at a cost lower than ₹1. Indian Trains are the safest, so chances of any mishappening are low.
You need to select your favorable mode of payment and select confirm.
Once you cover all the steps and proceed with your payments, the ticket will be sent to your registered mobile number and email address with the PNR Number, Coach number, and Seat Number.
