Thiruvananthapuram, August 4, 2019, The Liberacy:- IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman (32), 2012 Batch, appointed at the Kerala Survey and Land records department, was arrested on Saturday, with proper evidence of the killing of a local Malayalam journalist, as the officer hit the journalist on his two-wheeler with his car. The officer was accused of being drunk when he drove hit the journalist.
The journalist named, K M Basheer (35), worked as bureau chief of a local newspaper “Siraj”.
The accident took place at the Museum Police Station at the heart of the capital. The journalist Basheer died on the spot and the IAS officer was booked under the IPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) that is a non-bailable offense.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police Kori SanjayKumar Gurudin said that, with the help of witness and proper evidence they were able to get into the incident and arrest the accused IAS officer, “He was drunk during the accident.” Gurudin added.
During the incident, Venkataraman was with a female friend in his car and hit the victim’s teo-wheeler from behind. The impact was such that Basheer was thrown 100 meters away with the hit.
Venkataraman will be produced in front of the magistrate court soon.
