June 12, 2021, The Liberacy:- Eating Disorder has become one of the main side-effects of the Covid19 Pandemic and the global lockdown imposed because of it. The pandemic ensured us to have a “Healthy Diet” and the diet which is capable of improving our immunity. The lockdown had a direct impact on us, including weight gain due to inactivity and work-from-home hours, stress, loneliness, and eventual depression creating a silent but rising health issue of “Eating Disorder”.

Eating Disorder are of three types:- 1) Anorexia Nervosa, 2) Bulimia Nervosa, and 3) Binge Eating
Eating disorders can be distinguished based on abnormal activity or disturbed eating habits, so it becomes really essential to look out for the signs first and then try to tackle them.

1) Signs that you have a Eating Disorder.

Detecting the eating disorder can be tough, mainly because it’s hard to accept the flaws in oneself and then working on the change.
Here are some signs;

  • Skipping meals or eating in small portions just for the ritual’s sake.
  • Strange food combinations or strange habits of eating contradicting items one after the other.
  • Feeling disgusted towards some of your favorite food items.
  • Having an excuse to not eat (let that be dieting reason).
  • Oils and Fatty items or fried foods give you a dizzy mood and you hate it.

2) Effects of having Eating Disorder.

A lot is at stake when you go through Eating Disorder, this includes Mental and Physical pressure.

  • Low intake results in low bone density.
  • Muscle loss.
  • Weakness.
  • Abnormal Heart Rate.
  • Low Blood Pressure.
  • Hair Loss.
  • Dry Skin,
  • Fatigue.
  • Lack of Concentration.

3) Solution to Eating Disorder.

  • Talk:- Have a conversation about, what you feel and discuss it with your close ones, and always make sure that this is taken as a serious concern.
  • Avoid Simple Solutions:- While discussing make sure that you don’t fall for simple conversations like “Just stop worrying” or “Start Eating”. It is as harmful as the disorder because it will lead you nowhere in the dealing process.
  • Know your Food:- List out the food items you like, start eating them whenever you like.
  • Time your Intake:- Now as you have started taking your favorite food, time the intake hours.
  • Start Exploring:- Now slowly shift to different food items at the same timings you chose earlier.
  • Struggle:- This might become a struggle but a disciplined cycle will take you out of the habit of irregular intakes and shift to more nutrition.

Eating Disorder has become really common due to a stressed and busy lifestyle, and the pandemic added an extra burden. It will take a lot of disciplinary actions to overcome it. If nothing works, never hesitate to look out for a Doctor.
