June 1, 2019, The Liberacy:- ISRO confirmed the launch of Chandrayaan-2 in between July 9-16. Stating that, the launch of Chandrayaan-2 will be the most complex work ever undertaken by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
ISRO Chairman, K Sivan said in an official statement that the Lander will reach the lunar surface on September 6, 2019.
After the successful launch of Radar Imaging Earth Observation Satellite (RISAT-2B that was on PSLV-C46) on Wednesday, the scientists from the Mission Control Centre said that it’s going to be an achievement (Referring to Chandrayaan-2).
Landing of the Rover will be on September 6.
Mission Details:-
– Chandrayaan-2 is India’s second lunar mission, after Chandrayaan-1 which was launched 10 years ago on 22nd October 2008.
– Chandrayanan-2 has three modules,
1) Orbiter
2) Lander (Vikram)
3) Rover (Pragyan)
– Orbiter and Lander module will be stacked mechanically together and will be fitted inside the GSLV-MKIII launch vehicle, together they will be known as Integrated Module.
– After the launch, the integrated module will leave the earth’s atmosphere, and from earth’s orbit to moon’s orbit it will use “Orbit Propulsion Module” and from there on, it will locate the pre-determined landing site.
– On reaching the moon’s orbit, the integrated module separation will take place, where Lander (Vikram) will separate itself from the Orbiter. The Lander (Vikram) will be landed on a pre-determined site close to Lunar South Pole, which has never been touched before by any space agency.
– On landing, the Rover (Pragyan) will roll out and take over the scientific experiment part and will carry the experiments given to it.
– Chandrayaan-2 has been designed with 13 payloads and one experiment payload from American Space agency, NASA. ISRO earlier gave a brief description about the payload distribution of Chandrayaan-2, saying that there will 8 payloads on Orbiter, 3 on Lander (Vikram) and 2 on Rover (Pragyan) with a passive payload from NASA.
Chandrayaan-1:-
Chandrayaan-1 had 11 payloads. 5 from India, 3 from Europe, 2 from NASA and 1 from Bulgaria. Chandrayaan-1 was an Indian success, with its discovery of Water on the lunar surface.
After Chandrayaan-2, ISRO is planning to launch a high-resolution CARTOSAT-3 satellite.
