E-Commerce Rules will Hit Businesses, says TATA and Amazon

July 06, 2021, The Liberacy:- E-Commerce Rules announced by the Indian Government on June 21, 2021, faced some hard words from the pioneers of the market including TATA and Amazon.
TATA Group and Amazon.com Inc warned the government official in a meeting, that the new rules will have a major impact on their business models.

The New E-Commerce Rules set out by the government aims at strengthening protection for the consumers by limiting flash sales, creating a new complaint system for the consumers, and a complete ban on misleading advertisements.
The new rules also force the companies to ensure that the enterprises related to their company should not be listed as ‘sellers’ in any condition, which might impact Amazon directly as it has at least two enterprises, Appario, and Cloudtails listed as sellers.

It was in a meeting arranged by the Consumer Affairs Ministry and Invest India, where the big giants expressed their concerns, as the government rolled out the proposal for suggestions till 6th July 2021, that were clearly given.

Amazon and Flipkart argued that the Covid19 situation has already hit the business badly and the proposed rule will impact them even more, especially the small businesses.
Reliance representative supported the proposal and agreed to the points given in the new bill, but also added that more clarification was needed on some clauses.

Sources say that the representative from the Ministry argued that the aim of the bill is to protect the Indian consumers at any cost and also said that the laws in India related to E-Commerce were not as strict as in other countries.

The comments made by Reliance, TATA Group, Amazon, and Ministry could not be verified as they declined to comment anything.

The government will soon roll out more clarifications on the bill and the proposed E-Commerce Rules.
